Garden Update!!

My garden has been growing like crazy.. but so have the weeds!! This evening my hubby and son Jacob helped to get all under control again.. they string trimmed around it and rototilled the areas where I don't have anything planted... and between a few rows.. I still need to do a lot of weeding by hand.. but at least the major part of it all is looking neat and clean again. My son Isaac and I got it all watered.. takes a bit as some of it is still watered by hand.

Here are a few pics.. really the sun was totally in the wrong place for pic taking.. but what can I say.. that was when I was down there!

  1. Everything looks great! Wish I had that much land. I know what you mean about the weeds. Sometimes I think I fight a losing battle with them.

  3. Hello Crystal,
You should have taken pic before the weeding and after, because it looks really nice now.

  4. Beautiful garden! Everything is looking so healthy. I noticed that your tomatoes do not have any support and am wondering if you grow them like that or just haven't put anything up yet? If you do not support them do you have a lot of fruit rot, or branch breakage from wind? Happy gardening, K.N. in windy ND

    1. I do not support them.. I plant about 40 to 50 tomato plants each year.. and just have no idea how I'd support that many tomatoes.. One year, it rained a lot in September and I did lose tomatoes to rot .. the ones on the ground. Most years.. It's not a problem. The vines don't break.. and we have wind here too... we live in a gorge.. mountains on each side and a river in the middle.. we are just a wind tunnel!! I've really not had a problem with it. I plant so many tomatoes that I get over 300#'s a year.. If I lose a few.. I really don't feel it.. :) not worth the effort of trying to stake them...
