Homemaking Challenge for March

Time to move on to another “out of sight, out of mind” project in my home for the month of March….

The Homemaking Challenge for March is: The Bathroom

This is very needed in my home. We have one bathroom. These old homes were only built with one bathroom. We’ve had up to 10 people living in this home and we still made one bathroom work. We’ve considered converting one of the upstairs bedrooms into a bathroom, but we needed the bedroom space more than we needed another bathroom! Ha, ha! :) However it may be a future project.

There are six of us living in this home currently. The bathroom gets a lot of use. And over time things get tossed here and there in the cupboards and drawers. I know there is a better way to organize things, but first I need to sort through bottles, containers, and stuff to find out what we are actually using and then come up with a better plan to organize it all.

Here is an example of a couple of the drawers…

I have 2 daughters still at home and hair stuff, makeup and the like are everywhere.. my plan is to get this organized in a way that does not take over the whole bathroom.

My next project is this cupboard…

I think it is a bad use of space (and yes I stock up on toilet paper when it goes on sale.. ha, ha!!!  :) ..  I . I’m hoping to clear it out, paint it, and put some shelves up. I want to move things around and store more commonly used items (such as bath towels, washcloths, etc.. here).  The towels are currently in a cupboard that I think would have a better use...

And above the tall cupboard is more “stuff”..

Time to sort through and organize it so finding what we need and want is not such a chore…

So there you have it! Let’s clean out and organize the bathroom this month!!

  2. Is kind of amazing to me how many bathrooms newer homes have. I have a friend who has a bathroom for every bedroom and a guest bathroom. I am going to be completely honest and say I don't like to clean the bathroom enough to want that many...lol.

Completely off topic in a way -- do you buy all your towels and washcloths the same color? I currently have a mish mash that is slowly falling apart. I've toyed with the idea of going with all one color to make life simpler.

    1. Shara, most of my towels are white.. I buy them from Costco and they are nice quality at a bargain price! :) .. Some of my kids still have colored towels that they take to their room when they are done.. On occasion I'll buy colored towels for accent in the bathroom.

I'd have to agree with you.. I would not want to clean that many bathrooms either!! LOL!! :D

  3. thank you for the motivation again this month! got the vanity drawers and cupboard cleaned out...a 1/2 grocery bag filled with "stuff" I no longer need/use...going to be passed around to family members, and hopefully an empty bag will return. I went "poo free" 2 months ago, and am glad to get rid of the shampoos & conditioners taking up so much space! Yay!! Lynne

  4. I'm in! Our bathroom needs so much organizing and cleaning. I'm starting by getting some plastic shoeboxes from the dollar store and organizing. Wish me luck. :)
