Homestead Garden – Tomatoes Planted!!

Yesterday I had huge plans.. I was going to plant my whole garden..  ~smile~  But, as life goes.. I got a late start and had other priorities for the day..  BUT..  I did get a few rows lined up and then got my 52 tomato plants in the ground.  It took me 3 hours..  However it got done!!  Today it rained so I was not able to get back into the garden to finish planting my seeds.

Hopefully in the next couple of days the sun will be back out and I will get the garden in completely.  But for now, I am happy to have my tomato plants at this point.

Here they were ready to be planted…

And after they were planted…

  6. Wow, I thought my 16 plants was ambitious. Great Job. As far as supporting them, I put a steel post at both ends of the row and run mesh wire fencing that comes in a roll between the poles.

  7. Crystal,
I am always in awe of your garden :) We planted our first garden this year and it has been a great learning experience. We thought 12 tomato plants was going to be plenty but I now see why you have so many. Especially if you want to can things! We used the metal circles that you can put around the tomato plants to support them. You can see my garden here http://www.eat-live-and-be-full.blogspot.com/2012/05/may-garden-update.html

    1. Love your garden Sarah.. :) Yes, I plant as many as I do because I can lots of salsa and spaghetti sauce and if there is enough leftover then it is canned tomatoes...

  8. What beautiful soil! I have been in an apartment for 2 1/2 years and now am going to a townhome but there is a community garden across the street at a church that I will join next year. All organic! I get my garden fix by watching yours grow! Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you :)
