Update

I finally have a little bit of energy to be able to update you all. As many of you know in mid January I went in for surgery on my hiatal hernia. The surgery went as was planned up until the very end. I'm not going to go into all the details but a very bad mistake was made by one of the surgeons resulting in a tear in my esophagus. It required emergency surgery to fix this and I was intubated and sedated and in ICU for 5 nights. I spent another 3 or 4 days in the hospital and then was able to come home. Because I have wonderful support they could let me go home that soon.

I've been home a week now and it was a rough week. So many adjustments to make and strength to regain. Amazing how quickly and easily we lose our body strength when we don't use any of our body for 5 days. I have weekly and twice weekly visits from a registered nurse, physical therapy, occupational therapy and a speech pathologist. This has literally turned my life upside down.

I know I will recover in time. As the nurse said to me, “We're not talking days or weeks but most likely months until full recovery”.

My desire is to get back to as much of my normal life as possible, as quickly as I can but I honestly don't know what that looks like or how long it will take. But blogging is on the top of my list of enjoyable life pursuits.  I know I'll be back here posting regularly again very soon.

If you would, please keep me in your prayers.

Crystal

  1. My Dear, how very frightening for you and your family. Having spent a lot of time at my mothe’s Bedside in ICU i know it can be very confronting for everyone. I’m glad you have recovered sufficiently to be at home. As wonderful as hospital staff can be, there is nothing like home to really get well. You have my heartfelt prayers for your continued physical and emotional recovery from such an ordeal. I have enjoyed your blog for so many years, and look forward to you continuing it for many years to come.

  2. Oh my! I haven't been to your blog in a while and I came here tonight. Crystal I'm so sorry you have been going through such an ordeal! I prayed for you and will pray for you. I broke my tailbone having my first child and honestly I didn't know and the dr. didn't tell me. I couldn't walk straight for weeks. It did indeed take months, practically a whole year for my body to full recover. I remember running and it felt so good :) You'll get there. Keep God first and close, He's teaching you through this Momma! *hugs*

  16. Oh dear, Crystal, I am so sorry to read this. Our God heals completely! Have faith! I know that I wanted this breast cancer ordeal to be over quickly, and now I find that even though I've been declared in remission, I have to do more chemo, radiation, pills, tests etc for many more months.

I speak life healing hope and patience to you as well as strength in Jesus' name. I plead the blood of Jesus over you for complete healing. Amen.

  18. I had hiatal hernia repair several years ago. I know what you are going through. I can feel your pain literally. It does take several months to recover and not being a patient person I really didn't like that. But I can tell you from going through it that it does get better. Each day it's a little bit. Sometimes so little that you don't notice it, but your body does heal. How wonderful that you have a support group and a visiting nurse. All good things. Just do exactly as you are instructed. I will be praying for you both your healing and your spirits. Please email me if I can help you in any way.
