Updates from the Homestead

I know it's been a bit since I've blogged. Life has been busy. The first update is a very happy one!! My youngest son, Isaac, now has his drivers license!! And I'm finally able to say.. 8 down.. 0 to go! My job as a drive instructor.. is officially over. I could not be happier. Along with this milestone Isaac got a part time job. So the license came just in time. He started his new job yesterday and is doing great. Has already gotten compliments on what a hard, enthusiastic worker he is. He is excited about life. And I'm very happy for him. My birthday was last week and hubby and I made an escape to the Oregon Coast for a few days. It was wonderful to take a break and just get away. Enjoyed relaxation, walks on the beach and some great seafood. We felt refreshed when we got back. When I got home, I had the most wonderful surprise. People that know me, know that I have a love of all things tropical. I've always wanted a palm tree. But we li

My blogging has been sparse lately. I've been very busy. This week my menu is a bit iffy. Hubby and I are going away for a couple of days to celebrate my birthday. So my boys will be winging it. I'm giving them some 'suggestions' with this menu.. but most likely, knowing them, they will live off of easy food. They can cook, but it's not their favorite thing to do!  ~smile~  I'll be back to blogging more regularly very soon!! Monday Tacos w/all the trimmings Tuesday Hamburgers Wednesday Chicken enchiladas, chips & salsa, salad Thursday Leftovers Friday Teriyaki meatballs, noodles, salad Saturday Navy bean soup (home canned), biscuits, salad Sunday Beef stew, french bread, salad

Getting Fit in the 50's!

I'm still walking. Last week I walked 10 miles in total. May not seem like a lot to some but for me it has been a great thing. Normally I walk in my 'neighborhood'.. But for the past couple of weeks my daughter Hannah and I have been getting together to walk, with the grandkids, once a week. As long as the weather continues to hold out we plan to make this a regular occurrence. It has been so fun to get together with her and the kids and be outdoors and active. She brings a stroller for the younger ones, but her oldest daughter has no problems with 2+ mile walk. And since I'm not into “power walking” .. that distance has been great for all of us. We live in a beautiful area and the walking trails are everywhere. So we plan to pick a new area each week and check it out. Walking is amazing and easy to do, it is free, and fun. I truly believe that just getting outdoors and moving makes a person feel so good. The outdoors is wonderful therapy for everyone.

Monday Blues

I've seen a lot on the internet about how if you are not happy with your current situation, then YOU can change it!!!! To a point agree with this type of sentiment. If you are dealing with emotional issues, living in an unhealthy situation and so on, then yes.. change is up to you. Recently I read an article on “Monday Blues”. You know, that sinking feeling on Sunday night that tomorrow you will be back at it again and the weekend is over. I think we all deal with this to some degree or another. So I was eager to read this article and see what the authors thoughts and solution was to it. His solution was to get a new life, find a job or profession that you love. Wow, for a Christian author I think I was little surprised. Sometimes in life it is not a reality that things can be changed just because you want them to be. Life, especially as you get older, can often times be complex. When it comes to dealing with “Monday Blues” I think there is a healthier way t
