Fall is in the Air

It's beginning to feel a bit like fall here. We had a couple 80 degree days last week and hubby and I went swimming in our pond and enjoyed the sunshine and warmth. We both agreed that this was most likely the last of the days warm enough to swim. We had rain and cool weather over the weekend and temps in the forecast are looking a lot more like fall. I'm sad to see summer come to an end. It is my favorite of all seasons. But, it is time to embrace fall and all the changes that come with it.

Do you have a list of things you do in the fall around your home? I've always take this time to do a little fall cleaning. After a summer of open windows and doors the dust really starts to collect in all the corners. I also like to clean my kitchen cupboards. I use to do a lot of fall baking and cooking so in preparation I would clean and reorganize the cupboards. I don't do as much baking anymore but I still like using this time of year to just freshen up the kitchen. I need to wash windows and curtains as well.

Clothing is another area that I deal with. Years ago it was for all 8 children and me. Putting away the summer clothes and pulling out the fall/winter clothes. It was a big job. It's nice now that it is down to just me (hubby handles his own :). I was inspired by reading an article on folding clothes recently. I know it sounds almost simplistic, after all I've been folding clothes (lots of them :D ) for 35+ years now. But, this lady had a method of folding that made better use of the space and made clothes easier to find. I've never really enjoyed laundry (just accepted it) and so my drawers have not always been the most organized ha, ha. So I thought as I go through my summer clothes and change over it would be a good time to reaccess this make some changes to see if it would help stay organized. I'll keep you posted on this and if I like it.. I'll share more.. maybe it will give me a new view on laundry!

My kitchen, bathroom and laundry room floors also need a good cleaning. Not just run the mop over them cleaning. But clean the corners and edges and give it a good scrubbing.

So far that is my fall cleaning list. I may add more as I move along.

What about you.. do you do any fall cleaning?

And I have a question about laundry.. I know people who love it, and those who don't.. we all have to do it.. but..
do you.. love it or not?

  1. Laundry...Everyone in our home has a day of the week to do their own. I used to hate it when I did it for everyone. Now, I don't mind so much that it is mine and hubby's. Folding, ironing... I listen to music or an audio book while I'm doing it and it goes rather fast.

  2. When my children were younger and all at home they also each had their own laundry days... keeps a routine going and not having exhausting amounts of laundry piling up.. LOL.. :D .. I always said, with 8 children.. if the washer and dryer stop moving.. we are in trouble! ha, ha.. :) I like your idea of listening to an audio book.. I'll have to give that a try..

  3. I am constantly cleaning because my house is a mess! All the time! Since I've retired I am trying to get things cleaned out. Laundry? My husband and I take turns doing it. Whoever is up for it that day. We do wash just about every day and it's just the two of us.

  4. I have always enjoyed doing laundry. I have clotheslines and love to hang out things, especially sheets and bedding. As for cleaning, just yesterday I made a list of major cleaning that needs to be accomplished before cold weather and holidays get here. We are still having summer-like weather which means spiders, etc. I usually wait till it is too chilly for them before washing windows. From my list, it definitely looks as though I will have plenty to do till then.

  5. Fall...it is my favorite time of year! Cooler weather, vibrant colors in the changing of the trees, the smell as you walk a favorite path... Time to clean cupboards as well. I don't mind laundry at all. I hang it outside to dry (while I still can!), and the smell afterwards is heavenly. That I WILL miss come winter! LynneinMN

    1. I LOVE the smell of laundry hung on the line! Nothing beats that. I use to have a clothes line when my kids were younger and tried hanging clothes outside.. loved the smell, did not mind doing it at all (I think it makes laundry more enjoyable :)... but we did about 25 loads of laundry a week and I would have needed more clotheslines to keep up! Eventually my hubby took it down because I was not using it.. I do miss it..

  6. School. That's my fall list. ha, ha. Homeschooling...books, papers, staplers, red pens...it all needs organized, every day! However, I'll be reorganizing where my laundry racks go since the weather is changing and a clothesline will soon be out of the question. Time to hang it all indoors. So I need some fresh, clean space for those.

    1. Many years ago we lived in a house that had clothes line strung up in the basement. I hung our laundry there in the winter.. Currently our basement is to damp to be able to do that.. but it was a money saver for sure!

  7. Don't dislike me but I LOVE to do laundry - I love to hang out clothes - even in winter where here in Northern WI it can get downright bone freezing cold. I also enjoy folding my clothes - however, ironing not so much. I think I have an iron somewhere.......

    1. Ha, ha.. no dislike here!! I actually am encouraged by people that enjoy laundry.. sometimes I think it is more of an attitude than anything else.. so hearing from people that enjoy it helps give me a better attitude on it all. :)
