Garden Update

It has been about a month now since I planted my garden and it is growing great! The weather here has really warmed up and my plants are thriving.

On Saturday Isaac and I spent an hour or so weeding the garden and then went swimming and enjoyed the sunshine. I took a few pics and later in the evening we went down to water and Leanne came along to take some more pics.

I took this pic from my deck. You can see the big pond and the small pond. The small pond is actually bigger than it looks.. lots of stuff has grown up and around the pond this spring and we have not cleared it away yet. The little pond is actually a spring and it is what I use to water the garden. The water is piped underground over to the garden..

I then use PVC pipe to water each row. I dig a little ditch near or around the row of veggies and then we water each row by letting the water run down the row and then connecting the next piece of pipe at the top of the row to water the next row. This method works the best as there is not enough water pressure for sprinklers and the spring pond has too much debris to use soaker hoses…

Sometimes the ditches that we dig will break through so Isaacs favorite job is to get some dirt and pour it on the breach to keep the water flowing in the right direction.. He likes this job because he can get all wet and muddy.. LOL.. a little boy thing for sure!!

Now the garden is all watered!!

Time to jump in the pond for a swim…

  3. Your garden looks great. A really wonderful way to water it. Our pond is downhill from the garden so we must carry ours up in buckets. Your way looks much better. Enjoy your day and God bless.

  4. Hey, I followed your link here! I am still trying to get used to the changes over at HSB. I have one blog here on Blogger already, I just hate to move all those posts. Your garden is looking good, we didn't get one planted this year. Happy gathering!

  5. Is it okay for me to envy your garden just a bit? How about your dirt? Did you ever have anyone envy your dirt? Here in TX, we have to amend the dirt so much and even then the heat and pests are quite difficult to work with. Our tomatoes are still amazingly producing, but I imagine that with temps in the high 90's and low 100's they will be shutting down soon. Your garden is just beautiful and your watering system is just a wonderfully thought out system! Enjoy your summer's bounty! By the way, we are going to try your taco wraps this week! Thanks for such wonderful recipes with real food that is affordable!
    Hilltop Blessings,
    Sheri

  9. Char5 it was a job to move my posts. I had to do a lot of googling to figure out how to change file extensions and then move them.. I could not handle the thought of doing it one post at a time!

  10. Garden looks beautiful! I'm just happy I'll be home in time for the finished product. I'm not too crazy about watering and weeding anyway, if you know what I mean. ;)

    Love you! Em

  14. Thanks for the post and pictures of your garden. We also have irrigation water with little/no pressure. I like the set up you have with the PVC pipes. Could you elaborate a bit more on them and/or post more pictures. I would like to see if we can do something like that for our garden next year.
    Thanks!!

  16. Your garden is beautiful!! Do you use anything to minimize weeds? Our garden was overgrown with them last year and that was WITH us weeding quite a bit. I learned of a black sheeting that can be used to prevent them. BUT...your garden is sooooo big I was wondering what you did.

  17. Hi Jenn, I don't do anything other than pull weeds and use a stirrup hoe in between the rows. I spend a LOT of time weeding. I actually really enjoy it.. it gives me exercise, time to think, and a great tan.. LOL.. I spend probably 4 to 6 hours a week caring for my garden. My kids also help me with the weeding.

  18. I am jealous of your pond. Water resources are the problem here especially when total heat seasons. I love the way you watered your plants and your spacey garden. I am totally jealous and admire your wonderful garden!
