So Far This Week
What a weekend it was! We don't get a lot of snow over the winter. But when a snowstorm does hit, sometimes it can be a big one. It started Wednesday afternoon but only left a dusting and I thought that might be all. But no, it began snowing again on Thursday and all day Friday and well into the night. By the time I got up on Saturday morning we were in a winter wonderland.

I might appreciate snow more if it was not such a challenge here. And if I did not have children out driving in it. My husband grew up in the Midwest so he seems to manage well in adverse winter conditions. But here in the Northwest we never seem to have snow hang around long enough for drivers to get much experience in it.

My daughter was working in town when the storm hit and decided not to try and come home but went to her sister's house instead. The highway to our house has curves, hills, drop offs and can make winter driving particularly challenging and scary. Then there is the uphill road to our house and our driveway that can be a bit of a trick to get up.

The next morning things were not much better but she and a friend decided to head home. It was slow going but she made it as far as the end of our driveway and it was too slick for her car to make it up the hill.

With some teamwork and help from the tractor we got her up to the house.

My son works closer to home so he was able to make it to work but a friend and co-worker could not get back to his house so he came home with my son and spent the weekend with us.

My hubby was able to make it back and forth to work, but not without chains and plowing the drive way, twice, in order to get home.

I'm happy to say that the weather warmed up rather quickly, the roads cleared and all is normal once again.

On My To-Do List
Dealing with the weather, keeping the fire burning and making sure my houseful of people were fed over the weekend had all my attention.
However today another snow storm is suppose to come in and hopefully it won't be as big as last weeks.

Now I'm getting back to cleaning up, dealing with clutter and getting the house prepped for the family Christmas gathering next weekend. I'm really looking forward to the family time.

Projects I'm Working On
I made my own vanilla last week. It was very easy! I have not tried to use any yet. I ordered some cute little bottles from Amazon to put the extract in and will be filling them up, labeling and putting pretty ribbons on as soon as they arrive.

I'm also planning on making a few bottles of foaming hand soap from my own homemade liquid soap.  I also ordered a few bottles from Amazon for this and will do the same thing, label them and put ribbons on, to hand out to guests.

Today's Weather
High of 33 (in the city, I doubt we'll see 33 where I am at), low of 26. Snow in the afternoon and wind, lots of wind

What I'm Reading
I'm in the book of Joshua and enjoying that.  I'm also still making my way through The Count of Monte Cristo, excellent book and I'd love to make more progress through the book, but reading time has been minimal lately.

What I'm Listening To
The washing machine going, hubby in the kitchen warming up some breakfast and occasional wind gusts outside.

Something Frugal I've Done This Week
Hmm...  I'm not sure this was a week where I did anything extra frugal.  My lifestyle is pretty frugal as it is so it was a week of burning wood to keep the house warm which also makes hot water for us as my hubby has the water pipes from the hot water tanks piped through the wood stove.  Both of these things helps to keep our winter electricity bills very low.

Fitness for the Week
I have good days but with all the snow and people to take care of my fitness goals have not been at the top of my list.  I do find December with all it has going on a hard month to keep up with my walking.  But, no worries it is just a season and I'll get back on it soon.

I'll leave you this week with some pictures, taken by my daughter Sierra,  from our winter wonderland...

  3. I've been reading your blog sincey twins were just toddlers and now they are 14. I really enjoy your posts. I live on the East coast and enjoy seeing your pictures of the West. Also, your devotion to your husband and family is so edifying to me. I wish you were my mom! My family is very dysfunctional so when I read your posts it lifts me up. You don't realize how you have been there for me throughout the years. I make your sour cream Christmas cookies every year and they are our favorite. Thank you so much for every post. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
    Sincerely, Jessica Judy
