I'll be turning 59 this year and started swimming about 4 years ago. A friend and I took a 25-minute adult swim conditioning class together. The first night we were both hanging on the wall after completing only one length (25m). We scared the instructor enough that he ran around the pool to see if we were both ok. We have been swimming steady as workout partners for four years.
Well, this week we were in a conditioning class again. The warm-up for the 90 minute class was 24 lengths which we did without any effort. We ended up swimming 3000meters in 90 minutes. Tired for sure but loving how far we had come.
Long story to say - just start and keep at it and the level of conditioning will come. For me, it has really been helpful to have a workout buddy.
